If you want to publish documents on the Interweb you need a web server. You can hook up your PC or laptop directly to the Internet with your local provider, even with a dynamic IP address, or sign up with one of the many hosting providers and get a dedicated or shared server. Maybe you just need a specific application and a provider has just that a hosted application.

No matter what your configuration, current or future, I bet there is a huge amount of questions for every situation and provider.

Of course, I am not here to answer all these question but I have some questions of my own; occasionally I get answers—or an opinion. As a former server systems engineer I know web servers and the Internet very well in technical terms. Looking at all the web hosting providers out there I am more than often buffled about how they work. I can only imagine how desperate some people are without some background knowledge.

The pages in this section will have a collection of my experiences with some these web hosting companies but also general stuff related to web servers. Maybe one of these scenarios applies to your situation and you find the answer to your question.
